The Volkswagen advertisement campaign, began 1n 1960, the New York firm of Doyle Dane Bernbach created a simple, pun filled visual vocabulary that sent the diminutive car's sales through the roof. Concept was the key in these ads. Selling an economy car to a public used to ads that extolled the virtues of size and luxury in automobiles. The impact of Doyle Dane, Bernabach's campaign created what is described as the "new advertising" emphasizing creativity. The advertisements presented here areclassic examples of the "new advertising". Chariot dates from the early 1960s, while Funeral is circa 1970.
